ERK paddler shines at Vaal River marathon

The event was won by the Dabulamanzi Canoe Club’s Clinton Cook who finished his race in 04:32.

East Rand Kayaking Club’s Liam Stewart won the U21 title at the annual Vaal River Marathon on November 26 and 27.

Liam completed the two-day event at 04:45 to finish first in his category and eighth overall.

Dawie Gerber was the second ERK member at the finish. He was followed by Richard Tandy and Mike Barry.

In the K2 kayaks, Chris Rowe partnered with Johan Grabe to finish the race in 06:56.

According to Gauteng Canoe Union’s Jennie Dallas, over 100 canoeists took part in the competition. The race was a qualifier for the Dusi Canoe Marathon scheduled for February.

The event was won by the Dabulamanzi Canoe Club’s Clinton Cook who finished his race at 04:32.
