Athletes from Atlas Judokwan achieved great success at the South African Open Judo Championships that took place in Bloemfontein recently.
The club’s sensei, Vince Maree, explained the students competed against judokas from across Africa.
Six of the club’s judokas entered the championships.
Mpho Mtuida, Freddie Frost and Keanu du Plooy walked away with gold medals.
Ashwaria Arthur came in second place and Ishan Arnold and Luke van der West in fourth place.
Maree said he is proud of the students’ achievements.
“Their hard work and dedication paid off,” he said.
The club practices on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Impala Park Community Hall. There is also a self-defence class on Wednesday from 18:00 to 20:00.
