The Boksburg Rugby Club is thrilled to announce Hendrik Harmse as its newly elected chairperson.
He recently took over the reins from Renier Mostert.
Harmse’s journey with the sport began on the very fields of Boksburg Rugby Club in 2000, where he played with vigor and determination.
His commitment to the club and the game has now come full circle as he steps into this pivotal role.
Harmse’s rugby career is deeply rooted in Boksburg. As a player, he donned the club’s colors with pride, demonstrating exceptional skill and sportsmanship.
His passion for the game extended beyond playing as he transitioned into coaching in 2017, dedicating his time to mentoring young talent and fostering a love for rugby within the community.
As the new chairperson, Harmse’s vision for the Owls is clear. He wants to restore its status as a cornerstone of the community and to compete at the highest amateur level.
His plans are ambitious, but his dedication is unwavering.
“Rugby has always been more than just a game for me. It’s about community, camaraderie, and the spirit of competition. I am committed to seeing Boksburg Rugby Club thrive and reach new heights,” Harmse said.
However, the path ahead is not without its challenges. The club has been grappling with financial constraints that have hampered its progress.
“We acknowledge the financial hurdles that lie ahead, but with collective effort and community support, we can overcome them. Our goal is to build a sustainable future for the club, ensuring it remains a vital part of our community and a force to be reckoned with in amateur rugby,” he added.
Harmse’s appointment marks a new era for Boksburg Rugby Club. His deep-rooted connection to the club, combined with his extensive experience and passion for rugby, positions him as the ideal leader to steer the club through these challenging times.
Under his guidance, Boksburg Rugby Club aims to not only regain its former glory but also to establish itself as a beacon of community spirit and sporting excellence.
As Harmse and his team embark on this journey, the entire Boksburg Rugby community is invited to rally behind the club.
The new management committee are: Andre Boom De Klerk (vice chairperson), Lex Thorpe (president) Maritza Botha (secretary), Drikus Myburgh (treasurer) Danie Schultz (club captain), Braam Myburgh and Albie Cilliers.
