In a proud moment for Boksburg Athletic Club (BAC), Wattville resident Christina Silale (49) became the first woman from the club to complete the iconic Comrades Marathon on June 8.
Christina finished the grueling ultra-marathon in 08:16, securing 48th place in her category. Although she had hoped to finish closer to 07:10 or 07:30, she is overjoyed to have conquered one of the world’s toughest endurance races.

“This year marked my third Comrades, and each race brings its own challenges,” Christina said. “The downhills were brutal, my knees took a beating, but I’m happy I finished.”
Her journey is built on dedication, balancing rigorous training with her roles as a mother and community member.
“When you’re out there, it’s just you and the road. But in your heart, you carry your family, your community, and your club.”
Christina hopes her achievement will inspire more women in BAC to pursue their running dreams.
“To be the first BAC woman to finish the Comrades is humbling. I hope I’m not the last.”
Already planning for next year, she aims to improve her downhill endurance and encourages others: “Don’t wait to feel ready. Just start. And when your legs give up, let your heart carry you.”
