Le Roux joins BAS as new head coach
Le Roux’s appointment signals a new chapter for the Boksburg Aquatic Saints, with a focus on growth, development and competitive achievement.
The Boksburg Aquatic Saints Swimming and Lifesaving Club (BAS) has welcomed Robert le Roux as the new head coach.
He brings a lifelong connection to swimming and a focus on developing beginner and elite athletes.
Le Roux is a sports science graduate from the University of Pretoria, with a strong background in competitive swimming and coaching as the captain of the Protea Lifesaving team and a former top 10 swimmer in SA.
He aims to grow the club and help swimmers reach their qualifying times for goal competitions, with a broader vision to continue this development trajectory.
“Our goal currently is to help grow the club and have the kids qualify for their goal competitions.”
His most rewarding moment came early in his time with the club.
“Being with the club at the Winter Championship and seeing the swimmers do their best made me proud that they worked hard to accomplish their results,” he recalled.
Le Roux’s swimming journey began at a young age.
“My mom was a swimming coach, so I have always been next to the water, and with my older sibling swimming, I always wanted to join them in the pool,” he explained.
Its established reputation influenced his decision to join the BAS.
“The BAS has a rich history in the swimming community, so when I saw the opportunity to join, I applied to become a part of it.”
“I love the sport, helping kids grow as sportspeople and using swimming to teach them how to push themselves,” he said, summing up his passion for coaching.
