Community spirit shines at Kingsley Tournament
Local talent and unity took centre stage as teams battled it out in football and netball at the annual Kingsley Tournament.
The sound of whistles, cheers and friendly rivalry filled the air at the corner of Main Reef and Wit Deep roads recently as the fifth annual Kingsley Tournament wrapped up another memorable chapter in its growing legacy.
The popular community sports event once again proved to be more than just a competition, bringing together players, supporters and organisers in a shared celebration of local talent and sportsmanship.
This year’s tournament featured 16 senior teams competing in football and netball, alongside the top eight junior teams in both sporting codes.

Senior football
The men’s senior football division delivered fast-paced and competitive action throughout the tournament.
Chilliboys from Soweto emerged as the overall champions after a strong showing on the field. Their victory earned them a R15 000 cash prize, a full team kit and an official match ball.
Amazozo FC finished as runners-up and were rewarded with R10 000 and a full team kit for their efforts.
In a move aimed at recognising depth and consistency, all teams that reached the top eight in the senior men’s football division also received full team kits.
Senior netball
The senior netball competition was equally impressive, with teams displaying skill, determination and teamwork. Ramaphosa Netball Team claimed first place, taking home R3 500 in cash along with a full kit.
The runners-up were awarded R2 000 and a full kit in recognition of their strong performance in the latter stages of the tournament.

Youth development remained a key focus of the Kingsley Tournament.
The top eight junior teams in both football and netball were rewarded with full team kits, reinforcing the organisers’ commitment to nurturing young talent and encouraging continued participation in sport.
Community spirit
Organisers praised the strong turnout and ongoing support from the local community, noting that the tournament continues to grow in stature each year.
“We as the Kingsley Tournament are proud of the community’s response and the commitment displayed by every team that took part. Each year, the tournament becomes stronger, and this is because of the unity and passion we see from everyone involved,” said organiser Jabulani Jabulani Polori.
With another successful event concluded, the Kingsley Tournament has once again cemented its place as a highlight on the local sporting calendar, celebrating both competition and community spirit.
