Community gets at active at Kingsley Tournament

The winners of the tournament also won cash prizes.

The Kingsley Tournament, held at the corner of Main Reef and Wit Deep Roads, was a success, with soccer and netball matches played.

According to Jabulani Polori, one of the organisers of the two-day tournament, which took place on November 30 and December 1, there were eight football teams and eight netball teams.

“The programme was divided into two categories, with the first eight games taking place on November 30, and both the semi-final and final encounters taking place on December 1.

“On December 1, four teams from each sport remained, with each club fighting to secure a spot in the final, which was played later that day.”

In soccer, Limpopo FC from Jerusalem won the tournament and received R9 000 in cash, while the second runner-up received R4 000 in cash.

Success Monareng, Maditaba Thabane, Sgt Ntsako Ledwaba and Rinah Galane at the tournament.

In netball, the winner of the tournament, Kanana, received R3 000 and the second prize of R2 000 went to DRD Mine. The third runner-up, Jerusalem, received R1 200, and the fourth runner-up, Dubai, received R1 000.

“The tournament is also proud to announce that it was sponsored with five pairs of Puma soccer boots and five pairs of Hi-Tech netball shoes, as well as five Puma footballs, by Tomco Winder Armature CC.

“Each pair of soccer boots was handed over to the top goal scorer, best player of the tournament, and goalkeeper of the tournament. This procedure applied to both football and netball,” said Polori.

The organiser also mentioned that DRD, known as Durban Deep Limited Mine, sponsored full kits for all football and netball teams, while Libra Sports assisted with the trophies.

“Lastly, Sakho Properties assisted with sound, a fee for officials, and four vouchers.”

Polori said they are looking forward to next year as they aim to make the tournament even better.
