Silale wins category at Totalsports Two Oceans Marathon

She clocked 04:22:18, beating runner-up Nerida Lubbe (04:23:36) and Elizabeth Potter, who crossed the line in 04:27:15 for third place.

Christina Silale led the Boksburg Athletic Club (BAC) charge at the Totalsports Two Oceans Marathon, powered by BYD, winning the women’s master category after a tough grind on the 56km course on April 11.

Silale crossed the line at the UCT rugby field in 04:22:18, smashing her previous lifetime best of 04:30:14 from last year’s race, to become the first master women finisher and the BAC’s second athlete to cross the line and the 42nd lady overall across the line.

The Wattville resident, coached by David Gamede, beat runner-up Nerida Lubbe of Nedbank after crossing the line in 04:23:36. Boxer’s Elizabeth Potter completed the top three in 04:27:15.

Rita van Wyk also clocked a top 10 finish in her category. She finished the women’s grandmasters race in ninth place in 05:50:37.

Isaac Mokgola, who spent the early stages of the race in a bunch with the women’s race winner Gerda Steyn, was the BAC’s first athlete at the finish. He completed the 56km slog in 03:57:03, finishing 171 overall and 49 in the veteran men’s race.

The club saw 23 runners finish the ultramarathon, while 11 finished the half-marathon on April 12, with Cindy and Johan Burger crossing the line together in 02:15:30.
