Runners unite for CoE’s 60km endurance test ahead of Comrades

The first runner to finish the 60km course was Kamogelo Oscar, a Comrade's silver medalist.

The City of Ekurhuleni Athletics Club marketing manager Noko Matlou organised a successful club event on May 16 at Mall@Carnival where members ran 60km to prepare for the Comrades Marathon next month.

Matlou has completed four Comrades and will be undertaking his fifth this year.

The first runner to finish the 60km course, adding another 5km to his distance, was Kamogelo Oscar, who is a Comrade’s silver medalist.

He too has completed the Comrades four times and will be aiming for his fifth finish.

Another runner, Special Mhlanga, covered 54km on Saturday.

“I’m going to do the Comrade’s again this year, and I’m going to finish,” he said.

After the run, with some runners completing different distances while many did the full 60km, members of the club gathered on the grass lawn next to the Planet Fitness parking lot at the mall, where they were treated to a variety of refreshments and light meals.
