Siblings sitting pretty in squash rankings

Siblings Ethan and Brianna Robinson who are residing in Sunward Park and members of Boksburg Squash Club, ended the season (January to June) on a high note.

Ethan, who competed in his final year as a junior squash player, finished in the 10th spot in the national squash rankings in the U19 category. He said he is proud of himself for achieving such a milestone.

“I honestly deserve to be ranked in the top 10 because of the effort I put into the sport. I have been playing squash for eight years and I don’t see myself quitting.”

According to the chairperson of South African Schools Squash, Margo Morgan, Ethan shows great dedication to the sport and invests a lot of his time training and coaching young players as part of the Eastern Gauteng Junior Squash Association.

“He has always set his sights on competing in the greater senior National Squash Championships and I think he has the talent for this.

“Ethan has won the club championships over the past two years, under the Eastern Gauteng Squash Association and his sister, Brianna, competed in the girl’s U14 category and scooped first place in the national female squash rankings.

“She is going to be promoted to join the Boksburg Squash Club’s U16 girls team next year, and will play in this age group for two years,” Morgan said.

“Brianna will be focusing on sharpening her skills and building her body in the first year of the league because she is freshly from the lower division. She has already indicated that it is her goal to be in the top rankings of the U16 girl’s category.”

Morgan added that the support from Boksburg Squash Club members encouraged the two youngsters to play to their full potential and do well in this year’s season.

“Their competitiveness has moved to another level because of their coach Christo Potgieter’s role. His winning culture is truly rubbing off on Ethan and Brianna,” Morgan said.

“They both competed in the inter-provincial tournament in June and were declared the best players in their respective teams. Both players are going to don their full Eastern provincial squash colours as a reward for their good performance this year, and they deserve it.”
