Toddler hit by car dies in Reiger Park

Children were allegedly playing with sand when one of them was hit by a car.

A tragic event unfolded at the Reiger Park flats on January 5 when a 19-month-old boy died after being hit by a car.

According to Reiger Park SAPS spokesperson Constable Johannes Msimanga, police responded to the scene at around 12:30.

“Officers were told children were playing with sand when one of them was struck by the car, a blue Toyota Etios. It remains unclear whether they were playing on the road or next to the road.

“The boy suffered head injuries and was certified dead on scene.”

Police are investigating a case of culpable homicide and said it was not a hit-and-run; the driver stopped the vehicle after the accident.
