Hyundai refreshes Kona crossover

The year 2018 saw the introduction of Hyundai’s Kona subcompact SUV. Fast-forward to 2020 and the Korean manufacturer is giving its crossover a refresh.

The refreshed Hyundai Kona now features a new exterior look, tweaked interior, as well as changes to its powertrains.

On the outside, the front and rear fascia have been redesigned and there is a new grille, headlights, updated daytime running lights, plus new air intakes. The rear comes fitted with new taillight graphics, lighting elements and a new bumper.

Inside, the Kona’s dashboard and centre console have been reworked and now feature what Hyundai calls an airy and spacious layout. There are new 10.25-inch digital instrument clusters, plus a new 10.25-inch infotainment system that can be ordered at an additional charge.

For those who prefer the standard screen, Hyundai has enlarged it from 7-inches to 8 and comes standard with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. For the overseas market, the 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine’s power has been upped to 145 kW and can be had with 2WD or 4WD system plus a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic.

However, we expect the same engine line-up to soldier on in the form of a 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine mated with a 6-speed manual transmission. There is also a 2.0-litre n/a petrol variant that can be had with a six-speed automatic gearbox.
