TV weekly must watch

We’ve rounded up three great shows you should keep an eye out for this week.

Start with an incredibly shocking, ridiculously true story of a woman involved in several murder cases. Then get ready for humour, hijinks, quips, and queries in an Agatha Christie murder mystery. Or opt for a documentary-style comedy set in a fictional female prison.

When Betsy Faria is murdered in small-town Missouri, the police believe it’s an open-and-shut case involving her husband, who is arrested and found guilty of the crime. However, unanswered questions remain, and the case not only leads to a wrongful conviction but also sets into motion a chain of events that exposes a diabolical scheme involving Betsy’s close friend Pam Hupp. Never considered a suspect, even though she was the last person to see Betsy alive, Pam keeps changing her story as she evades questions and leads investigators through a chilling series of unexpected twists and turns. Catch The thing about Pam, Mondays on M-Net, channel 101 at 9:30pm.

Based on her 1934 novel, Why Didn’t They Ask Evans? opens with a fine Agatha Christie enigma: a man lies dying at the foot of a cliff, apparently the victim of an accidental fall; with his final breath, he utters the mysterious question of the title and promptly expires. Some people might shrug at the impenetrable oddness of the words and move on with their lives. But Bobby Jones and his childhood friend, Lady Frances ‘Frankie’ Derwent are not most people. They resolve to honour the dead man by deciphering, and then answering, his final question, hitting upon a dark conspiracy of deceit, betrayal and – perhaps unsurprisingly – murder. Watch Why Didn’t They Ask Evans? From April 12 on BritBox.

Events planner-turned-women’s prison governor Laura Willis documents life behind bars. Set over a six week period during which the inmates rehearse a musical directed by ex-EastEnders star Cheryl Fergison. Hard Cell is a delightfully dry comedy series starring Catherine Tate. Coming to Netflix on April 12.
