DJ De One wins deejaying competitions in KZN

She plays old house music that people have forgotten about.

Deneo ‘DJ De One’ Majoro won conservatively on the phenomenal Weekend Groove Battle of The Deejays competitions.

They were facilitated by Mondli ‘Isilwana’ Kelvin at Imvula FM, on June 11 and 18.

DJ De One said she was competing against a lot of deejays that are based in Kwa Zulu-Natal on both weekends.
“I think what made me win the competitions is that I played ‘old school’ house music. I decided to try it out in these competitions.

“Most of the deejays I was up against played trending music which is amapiano and gqgom. But I played old house because it reminds me of where I come from as a deejay, and when I started deejaying.

“I won another deejaying competition last year in an online radio station, Nqubeko FM, based in Durban. I got a lot of bookings in Durban after winning that previous deejaying competition and I hope it will be the same for me, after winning these recent competitions,” said DJ De One.

She said she won all those competitions because she always tries to play the music that sets her apart from her competitors.

“We were assessed based on the way we mix and select music. The music that is causing waves across South Africa is amapiano. I play it sometimes as a deejay, but I don’t prioritise playing it when I deejay, because I want to be a unique deejay.

“I was the only deejay representing Gauteng in the competition. Most importantly I’m happy that I won the recent competitions. My hard work paid off. I feel appreciated and motivated. I will work harder as a deejay.
“I plan to inspire and motivate other women out there, especially in the music industry,” said DJ De One.
