Pay it forward with Raise The Bra campaign
Learn how to be part of the movement and give the gift of a bra.
Ladies, it’s time to clean out your lingerie drawer and donate your gently worn bras that don’t fit anymore to the popular Raise The Bra campaign for underprivileged high school learners and older women.
The annual initiative is the brainchild of plastic surgeon Dr Deon Weyers and started as a campaign for his Johannesburg patients who either had breast enlargement or reduction surgery and no longer needed their pre-surgery bras. Instead of these bras going to waste in the back of their clothing cupboards, they could donate them to women who could not afford them.
The donated bras are distributed to high schools in Soweto, Alexandra as well as other schools in Gauteng that have sent requests to the ZABRA – AfreeBra initiative – an international volunteer network – who manage the distribution process.
This year, Raise The Bra has become a nationwide campaign with drop-off points at Cure Day hospitals in:
Fourways, Midstream, Wilgeheuwel, Erasmuskloof, Medkin (PTA), Paarl, Belville, Somerset West, Bloemfontein and East London
