Hospital to educate on diabetes

The SPMC will host the event in commemoration of Diabetes Month.

The Sunward Park Medical Centre (SPMC) invites people to learn about diabetes on East Rand Diabetes Day at the centre on November 25.

The educational and informative event in the morning will be divided into three sessions.

According to the specialist physician and diabetologist at the SPMC, Dr Angela Murphy, the first session will begin at 08:30 and run until 09:00.

“In the first sitting, the attendees will learn about the methods used to put diabetes in remission, what happens to the feet of a diabetic person and the roles played by a diabetes nurse educator.

“The second session, from 09:30 to 10:00, will focus on the diabetes diet, the importance of exercising and the technology used to treat diabetes,” explained Murphy.

She said the last session will run from 10:30 to 11:00.

“Topics such as paying attention to how you feel will be discussed, including the new social media drug. A diabetic person will also give testimony on living with diabetes,” Murphy shared.

People who want to attend must register by emailing info@sunwardparkmedical.co.za
