WATCH: Boksburg North blaze guts liquor store, cause of fire to be investigated

Flames lit up the pre-dawn sky in Boksburg North when a liquor outlet was completely gutted, prompting a multi-station emergency response and hours of firefighting.

Traffic came to a standstill this morning (December 17) after the iconic liquor store, formerly known as the Pink Elephant Liquor Store, on Trichardt and Cason roads in Boksburg North was destroyed by a fire in the early hours.

The stretch from Cason Road to First Avenue was cordoned was cordoned off and motorists were redirected.  Onlookers watched as firefighters worked around the clock as firefighters tried to contain the blaze that was still smoldering after 07:00. The cause of the fire is undetermined and will be investigated.

Emergency services received a call at 03:25 about the blaze at the Jambo Liquor Market Blue Bottle. Firefighters battled the flames for several hours before the fire was extinguished at 07:30.

According to DEMS spokesperson William Ntladi, no injuries or fatalities were reported.

Fire crews from multiple stations, including Leon Ferreira, Boksburg Central, Rynfield, Farrarmere and Albertina Sisulu, responded to the incident, assisted by other emergency stakeholders.

The store was completely gutted.
