Local pre-school renews appeal for help to renovate ageing facilities
Despite ongoing challenges, the school management team is committed to providing children with a safe and welcoming learning environment.
Over two months after appealing for help, the Boksburg North-based Junior Oxford Crèche and Pre-primary School is still battling to raise sufficient funds for the much-needed upgrades of its ageing infrastructure.
The idea is to secure sufficient donations of funds or materials to give the classrooms and other essential facilities a facelift, thereby creating a welcoming learning environment for the hundreds of learners, many from underprivileged families in Boksburg North and surrounding areas.
According to school representative Shani Smart, the previous appeal did not result in any donations or sponsorship from the private sector or wider community.
They continue to appeal for assistance from anyone who can help, with material or financial support.

“Unfortunately, we didn’t receive any assistance following the appeal. We hosted a fundraising fun day for the children, but the funds raised were not enough to make a meaningful impact on the renovation project.”
While no major refurbishment work has been done yet, Smart said that, with limited funds, the school now plans to use what it has to paint a section of the building to improve the learning environment.
“We are not giving up. Despite ongoing challenges, we are committed to providing our children with a safe, welcoming learning environment – and continue to appeal for support,” said Smart.
The Junior Oxford Crèche and Pre-primary School is one of Boksburg’s oldest pre-schools and operates from a converted 1952 farmhouse and horse stables.
To lend a helping hand, potential donors or sponsors may call the school on 065 214 2458 or visit the facility located at the corner of Paul Smit and 1st Street, Ravenswood, Boksburg.
