Parkrand dojo honours athletes’ achievements

12 athletes from the dojo received their national colours.

Goju Karate Academy Parkrand honoured 45 athletes on March 6 for their grit, determination and discipline throughout the tournament season last year.

“Our team competed in 10 tournaments, including the World Union of Karate-Do Federations (WUKF) World Championships, in Malmö, Sweden,” said fourth dan instructor, sensei Tarryn Madgwick.

“Our dojo won 567 medals for the year; 245 gold, 169 silver and 153 bronze.”

Madgwick said that 33 athletes were awarded Martial Arts South Africa (MASA) WUKF South Africa Gauteng colours, and 12 received their MASA WUKF SA Presidential colours.

“We are proud of all our award winners and are proud of their achievements. We cannot wait to see them excel throughout the coming year,” she said.
