Boksburg's St Dominic's crowned national champions
Competing against the country's best, St Dominic's excelled across six demanding disciplines.
St Dominic’s Catholic School for Girls has etched its name into the history books after both its primary and senior majorette teams were crowned South African Majorette and Cheerleading Association (SAMCA) Elite League National Champions – the highest level of majorette competition in the country.
The historic achievement was secured at the 2026 SAMCA South African National Championships, held at Ruimsig Athletics Stadium in Roodepoort from July 3 to 11.
The prestigious annual event brought together the country’s top majorette teams, with only those that qualified through their respective provincial championships earning the opportunity to compete for national honours.
This year’s championships were particularly significant as they marked the first time since 2016 that Gauteng hosted the national event.
Competing against the country’s best, St Dominic’s excelled across six demanding disciplines: large drill, small drill, baton group, mace group, non-pom group and flag group. Through exceptional precision, teamwork and dedication, both teams claimed the overall Elite League national titles.
The primary school team, affectionately known as the Saintees, consists of 38 talented members, while the senior school team, the Saints, is made up of 55 dedicated athletes.
According to the school, the success was guided by a committed coaching team comprising Alisha Venter, Matthew Higgs, Natalie Brink, Rabi Mobeng and Zoe Pretorius.

“Their expertise, countless hours of preparation and unwavering commitment played a vital role in the team’s outstanding performances.
“The double championship is a testament not only to the talent of our athletes and coaches, but also to the culture of excellence and commitment that has become synonymous with St Dominic’s,” the school said.
As the celebrations continue, the Saintees and the Saints returned home as South Africa’s top Elite League majorette teams, cementing St Dominic’s Catholic School for Girls’ reputation as one of the country’s leading schools in majorette sport.
