EMPD K9 seize R32 000 worth of narcotics

The Ekurhuleni Metro Police K9 Unit conducted special operations from July 17, at 4pm, until the morning of July 18, at 8am, in Brakpan, Springs and Benoni.

Various types of narcotics worth approximately R32 000 were confiscated from five drug dealers.

A total of eight undocumented persons were arrested.

“During the first phase of the operation, which took place in Brakpan, two suspected drug dealers were arrested when found in possession of 64 ziploc packets of cat to the value of R12 800, and R1 100 in cash,” said EMPD spokesman Supt Wilfred Kgasago.

Kgasago said four vehicles were discontinued while one vehicle impounded.

“At least 60 vehicles were stopped and searched,” he said.

Phase two of the operation was concentrated in Springs, where a variety of narcotics to the value of R17 380 were recovered.

“Forty-two Ziploc packets of cat worth R8 400, rocks worth R2 900, and dagga valued at R6 000 were seized,” Kgasago added.

He said two drug dealers were apprehended, one undocumented person was arrested, three vehicles were impounded and at least 15 vehicles were stopped and searched.

Phase three of the operation targeted Benoni, where 16 packets of rock worth R1 600 were seized and one suspect was arrested.

At least 10 vehicles were stopped and searched and 10 spot summonses were issued.

High visibility patrols were conducted at both crime and accident hotspots in Brakpan, Springs and Benoni.

The suspects were due to appear in court on Friday, July 19.
