
Over and above these, 73 other drivers went home with fines ranging between R400 and R1 000, for not observing the speed limits.
On Sunday morning, on Springs Road between Vincent and Koch roads in Brakpan, which is a 70km/h zone, six drivers were locked up in the Brakpan Police Station, with the highest recording 116km/h.
On the same morning, on the R23 between Rangeview and Dube roads, in Brakpan, an 80km/h zone, six more drivers landed behind bars with the highest clocked at 142km/h.
On Saturday morning, during a speed operation conducted on the R23 between Geluksdal and Koot Road, in Brakpan, nine drivers were arrested for going well beyond the prescribed 100km/h speed limit. The highest speedster registered 147km/h and the balance clocked speeds of between 146km/h and 133km/h.
On Friday, six drivers were nabbed on Springs Road, between Koch and Afrikaner roads, for exceeding the 70km/h speed limit, with the highest clocking 120km/h.
All the arrested drivers paid bail of between R500 and R1 000 and will be appearing in court soon, to face charges of reckless and negligent driving.
