
Two hijackings were reported to police over the weekend, and another was reported on Monday.
On Friday night, last week, the male driver of a white Nissan bakkie was hijacked along Lemmer Road, in Vulcania.
The driver was en route to Springs from Mpumalanga when he became lost in Brakpan.
At about 8pm he stopped at the Brakpan Taxi Rank to ask for directions and a man offered to accompany him and show him the way.
The driver agreed and while travelling through Vulcania, the man suddenly asked the driver to stop.
The man took out out a firearm, pointed it at the driver and told him to get out and run.
On Sunday night, last week, a 26-year-old man was hijacked in the driveway of his Boven Street home, in Leachville.
He arrived home at about 9pm and parked his vehicle, a black Volkswagen Polo, in the yard.
As he made his way to the house, the man was confronted by an armed male, who pointed a gun at him and told him to lie on the ground.
The hijacker searched the man, taking his car keys and cellphone, before fleeing in the Polo.
On Monday night, a 63-year-old man was hijacked in Green Street, Brenthurst.
The man arrived at an address along this street at about 8.30pm, to visit a friend.
As he parked his car, a silver Volkswagen Polo, he noticed a car pull up behind him.
He was then confronted by an armed man knocking at his window.
The hijacker told him to get out of the car and lie down.
He was searched and robbed of his driver’s licence, jewellery and some cash.
The hijacker climbed into his car and drove off.
In addition to these incidents, a possible attempted hijacking took place at an address in Blyde Avenue, in Leachville, on Sunday night.
According to police reports, a 32-year-old man arrived at the property at about 9pm to visit his sister.
He parked his silver Hyundai I20 in the yard and was about to close the gates, when an armed male entered the property and pointed a gun at him.
He was told to lie down and not to scream or he would be shot.
The man ran to the house and the armed male fired shots at him.
He was not injured and the shooter fled.
Police are investigating a case of attempted murder.
