Police initially warned residents of an increase in motorbike theft in the Herald’s January 17 edition (Theft of motorbikes on the rise), and the problem shows no signs of abating.
“The thefts are more rife in the Brenthurst and Brakpan CBD areas,” said Capt Joep Joubert, spokesperson for the Brakpan Police Station commander.
He told the Herald that a white Mazda 323 has been seen at the scenes of some of these thefts and urged residents to be on the lookout for it.
“Ensure that your motorbike is properly secured and locked before parking it, and, if possible, keep it out of sight or covered,” added Joubert.
Suspicious-looking vehicles, individuals and activities can be reported to the Brakpan police on 011 744 4940.
