Theft of cellphones on the rise

Brakpan police have reported an increase in the theft of cellphones.

According to Capt Joep Joubert, spokesperson for the Brakpan Police Station commander, the majority of cases have been reported in the CBD, while the owner has been talking on his or her cellphone.

He urged residents to take note of the following safety tips:

* only talk on your cellphone in a public place, when it is safe to do so;

* always conceal your cellphone when you are in public;

* never leave your cellphone unattended in a public place;

* avoid getting tricked by lending your cellphone to someone who wants to make a call;

* don’t leave cellphones lying on a seat in your car.
