Man sentenced for culpable homicide

Johannes Jacobus Joubert (47) was recently found guilty on a charge of culpable homicide, and sentenced in the Brakpan Magistrates Court.

Joubert was involved in a car accident on November 25, 2012, at the corner of Springs and Denne Roads, Witpoort, in which a 25-year-old man was killed.

According to Capt Joep Joubert (no relation to the accused), spokesperson for the Brakpan Police Station commander, an Isuzu LDV collided with a Toyota Tazz at this intersection.

“The driver of the Tazz was killed and trapped inside the vehicle,” said Joubert.

The accused was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment, with the option of a R60 000 fine.

Half of the sentence was suspended.

Brakpan Police Station management commended investigating officer WO Martin Smit for the successful conviction.
