The Caxton Reynolds Race kicks off

The Caxton Reynolds Race kicked off on a high note, on Saturday, last week, at Hirsch's Boksburg.

The eager and energetic teams braved the cold weather all hoping to score high in their first task of the race.

Reynolds Race is based on the popular television’s “Amazing Race”, and will require participating teams to complete various tasks across the East Rand, in order to win the big prize.

The winners of this year’s race win an all-expenses paid trip to Zanzibar, courtesy of the SA Reynolds Travel Centre.

A point system will be used to monitor the teams’ performances and to score them accordingly

The first team to finish a task within the given time walks away with bragging rights and top points that will be added to their overall score card.

The three teams with the most points by the end of the seventh week will all go into the finals that will be held in Springs, on August 2.

Some of the tasks included:

Balloon Lift

One team member had to keep a balloon in the air using their index fingers and place the balloon inside a washing machine.

Cookie Face

One team member placed an Oreo cookie on their forehead and using their facial muscles had to direct the cookie into their mouth. They needed to get four Oreos to win.

Tissue run

Teams had to take tissues out of a tissue box using only one hand. The first team to take out all the tissues wins.

Some teams tied with their scores, which is why they achieved the same points.

Meet the teams:

Nathan Sikosana and Karabo Masenyadiloana will represent Brakpan

Jenny Basson and Esté Reynecke will represent Springs.

Johan Ferreira and Sophia Viljoen will represent Kempton Park and Tembisa.

Liza Smith and Petrus Lombard will represent Boksburg.

Emmanuel Mgcina and Mduduzi Sihlongonyane will represent Benoni

Cheryl and Sean Whelan will represent Germiston.

Louise Brown and Cameron McLeod will represent Bedfordview and Joburg East.

Prema and Dheshan Naran will represent Joburg South.
