Speedsters in the East: Brakpan tops the list

The EMPD recently arrested 25 drivers for speeding in Brakpan, Benoni and Springs.

“Sheer failure to practice sound practical judgment where the slightest mistake could lead to loss of limb or life is something some imprudent motorists continue doing in the three towns of Brakpan, Benoni and Springs,” said EMPD spokesperson Chief Supt Wilfred Kgasago.

“An average of eighteen drivers per week are arrested for exceeding the speed limit in these areas.”

On Tuesday evening, last week, 10 drivers were arrested for speeding along the R23 in Brakpan.

The speed enforcement operation was held between Kaapmuiden Street and Dube Street, an 80km/h zone.

“The drivers landed behind bars when caught doing speeds of between 116km/h and 158km/h,” said Kgasago.

On Thursday morning, last week, six drivers were arrested along Welgedacht Road in Springs.

These drivers were caught travelling at speeds of between 97km/h and 104km/h in a 60km/h zone.

On Friday morning, nine drivers were arrested in Benoni.

This operation was held along the R51, between the N12 highway and Modderbee Road — an 80km/h zone — and the drivers were nabbed doing speeds of between 116km/h and 132km/h.
