Don’t ask questions, just pay

Japie writes by email: I would like to bring to your attention how clever council is in raising extra income.

They do not process EFT payments in time, knowing that the system will generate a final notice.

This will raise a charge to the consumers account of R70 per account.

This can be a huge extra income.

I paid my account four days before the due date.

On October 2, I received a final notice for the amount payable.

On trying to phone them , the telephone number printed on the final notice is 011 999 — they can’t even give you a complete phone number.

If you do get lucky to speak to somebody, the only answer that you get is “pay your account, then we will look into the matter when we have time.”

The employees must remember one thing.

It is not council that pays their salaries, but we as the public.

I really hope that someday, somewhere a bright light will shine so that they can clearly see what is going on.
