An essay competition for young writers

Are we walking in the steps of OR Tambo?

The City of Ekurhuleni is calling on all learners in Grades Five to 11 to submit their responses to this question for the 2014 Oliver Tambo Schools’ Essay Competition.

The first of its kind in Ekurhuleni, the essay contest aims to unleash the writing potential amongst learners and to instil within them some life lessons, by challenging them to reflect on the principled life that was led by struggle icon Oliver Reginald Tambo.

The learners will be required to do research and visit the exhibitions currently on display at libraries across the city, in order to obtain information on Tambo’s life and legacy, focusing on what he stood for.

Entry forms are available at Ekurhuleni libraries and can be submitted physically (at the library) or electronically at Ben.Segabutla@ekurhuleni.gov.za or Bafana.Mohulo@ekurhuleni.gov.za .

The closing date for submissions is October 23 and the prize-giving ceremony will take place on October 27, during the OR Tambo memorial lecture gala dinner.

There are three categories, namely Junior for Grades Five to Seven, Intermediate for Grades Eight to Nine and Senior for Grades 10 to 11.

Winners in these categories stand a chance to win gadgets such as tablets, e-book readers, MP3 players and more.
