
The speeding motorists were nabbed on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, along the R23 (Heidelberg Road), which is an 80km/h zone.
Friday’s operation took place between Kaapmuiden and Outhout Roads and six drivers were detained for exceeding the speed limit.
“At 5.48am, a male driver was caught doing 153km/h,” said EMPD spokesperson Insp Kobeli Mokheseng.
“The rest of the lawbreakers were clocked at speeds of between 119km/h and 131km/h.”
Between 4.30am and 8.30am on Saturday morning, EMPD officers arrested 15 drivers between Rangeview and Outhout Roads.
The offenders were travelling at speeds of between 116km/h and 140km/h.
Another 15 drivers were nabbed on Sunday, between Rangeview and Outhout Roads.
The arrests were made between 4.30am and 9am.
“At 8.12am, a 30-year old male motor mechanic driving a grey Volkswagen Caddy, was caught doing 147km/h, claiming to be on his way to a break-down,” said Mokheseng.
“On the same stretch of road, another wrongdoer in a white Volkswagen Polo, was stopped and issued a traffic fine of R800, for driving 104km/h.
“As he left, he sped off with wheels spinning and clocked 117km/h.”
“He was arrested, after a high speed chase.”
The rest of the offenders were clocked at speeds of between 115km/h and 142km/h.
All the arrested motorists were charged with reckless and negligent driving at the Brakpan police station and are expected to appear in the Brakpan Magistrates Court soon.
