According to information received from the local SAPS, the divorced couple were both employed as prison wardens — the man at Boksburg Prison and the woman at Devon Prison.
The woman came home to their Sable Street residence over weekends and it is believed the pair had an argument on Saturday morning.
“The man phoned his sister and told her that she would find the house keys in the outside lock of the front door,” said a police spokesperson.
“The sister then heard gunshots.”
The man’s sister immediately phoned the police and rushed to the address, where she found the two bodies in the main bedroom at about 12.05pm.
The woman had been shot six times — five times in the upper body and once in the left arm.
The man sustained a gunshot wound to the head.
Police later established that the woman had a protection order against her ex-husband for previously threatening to shoot her.
The murder weapon was a licensed firearm which belonged to the woman.
