Early morning blitz yields five arrests

Five drivers were arrested for speeding along the N17 highway in Brakpan, yesterday (Sunday).

According to Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department spokesperson Kobeli Mokheseng, officers from the Speed Enforcement Unit apprehended the motorists for exceeding the 120km/h speed limit, near the Denne Road bridge.

“At 4.54am, a 35-year-old male driving a Mercedes Benz sedan was caught doing 209km/h,” said Mokheseng.

The driver was nabbed following a high speed chase and told officers he was rushing to his wife.

“The rest of the lawbreakers were clocked at speeds of between 168 and 181km/h,” added Mokheseng.

The offenders were charged with reckless and negligent driving at the Brakpan police station and will appear in the Brakpan Magistrates Court soon.
