Video: Brakpan SAPS foil armed robbery

Six suspected armed robbers were arrested in the Brakpan CBD this morning, after Brakpan police foiled their alleged plans to rob a local business.

According to Capt Joep Joubert, spokesperson for the Brakpan police station commander, police received a tip-off about a group of suspicious men in the parking area of the Brakpan Mall, near Kitzinger Avenue.

“Police arrived at about 10.30am and found six men in a white Chevrolet bakkie,” said Joubert.

Joubert told the Herald that two 9mm pistols, as well as ammunition, was found in their possession.

“It has since been established that one of the firearms was stolen in Mondeor, Johannesburg,” said Joubert.

“It is believed that the men were planning to rob one of the local businesses here in the CBD.”

The men face charges of being in possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

More information will follow once it becomes available.
