One year on: community marches for Jasmin

Hundreds of people took to the streets of Brakpan this morning (Saturday) to commemorate the first anniversary of the brutal murder of Jasmin Pretorius (4).

Participants, mostly dressed in pink, marched from the Charl Baard Stadium along Prince George Avenue, to Suenet Flats in Voortrekker Avenue — the address where Jasmin’s  body was found under a bed on December 28, last year.

A large number of bikers participated in the march.

“The community is still up in arms about this because after a year, the case against the accused is not progressing,” said Andries Ferreira from Mad Rage Against Child Abuse.

The march culminated in a sermon and prayer session by Jasmin’s grandfather Pastor Colin Bam.

Jasmin’s mom, Sasha Lee Bam, as well as other family members, were also in attendance.

Jasmin, who lived with her mother Sasha Lee Bam in Kempton Park, was picked up by Morne the previous day, to spend the weekend with him.

Jasmin’s uncle was arrested and charged with her murder.
