Six Mbense murder accused to remain in custody as bail hearing drags on

Another day in court has ended without a decision on bail for the six accused, with proceedings postponed to next week.

The bail application of the six accused in the Emmanuel Mbense murder case was postponed again after an appearance today (August 20), as cross examination of the investigating officer, Nomsa Masuku, continues.

Legal representation for Bhekokwakhe Sibande (applicant two) started his cross examination of the investigator today, but was unable to complete his questioning.

The next appearance, where the bail application will continue, will take place on August 27 at the Brakpan Magistrate’s Court.

Until then, the accused will remain in custody at two police stations, rather than correctional services, for ease of transport.

The men will be held at Benoni Police Station, while the women will be held at Germiston Police Station.

It was arranged that all accused are afforded regular visitation at these stations.
