Tiny Titans take to the task

The Brakpan Indoor Sports Centre was abuzz with cheery smiles and tangible anticipation when Xtreme Kickboxing Technologies (XKT) hosted the Clash of the Tiny Titans, on Saturday, April 25.

Close on 200 young kickboxing students (14 years old and younger), from around South Africa, gathered at the centre to take each other on in various styles and semi and light contact fights, at one of the largest junior kickboxing tournaments on the continent.

Raymond “The Whip” Phillips, president of XKT, said that the event was surprisingly a huger success than anticipated, considering that it fell over the long weekend.

He added that he is pleased to see that the sport is growing more and more among children and that the future for kickboxing in the country is looking extremely bright.

“One thing that is truly awesome is that the sport and events like this are fast becoming a family-orientated thing as parents, siblings and grandparents come on down to support their children,” said Phillips.

He thanked all the clubs, judges, instructors and fighters who made there way to Brakpan to participate at the Clash of the Tiny Titans.

“It was a really excellent turnout.”
