Culprits arrested after footage was obtained

Two men who broke into a business along Voortrekker Road, in May, were caught shortly after and were recently sentenced, in the Brakpan Magistrates Court.

Electrical appliances, clothing, houseware and an undisclosed amount of money were stolen during the burglary, which occurred on May 25.

Members of the Brakpan Anti-hijacking Task Team arrested the culprits after footage was obtained from cameras inside the business premises.

On July 2, Marcus Pherrie (29) was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment without an option of a fine, wholly suspended for a period of five years, on the condition that the accused is not convicted of an offence of housebreaking with the intent to steal and theft and possession of suspected stolen property,during the period of suspension. The accused was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.

On July 30, Johannes Jacobus Labuschagne (29) was sentenced to three years imprisonment, and was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.

The investigating officer was Det Sgt Tseko Paulos.
