Metro closes for holidays

Ratepayers are also advised to make payments ahead of time as the municipality's offices will be closed between Christmas and New Year.

The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality reminds residents of the importance of paying their municipal accounts on time this festive season.

“Before setting off to your holiday destination or getting consumed in festive shopping, do stop by at your nearest Ekurhuleni Customer Care Centre to settle your account and avoid credit control measures, such as electricity disconnection, being implemented,” said Ekurhuleni spokesperson Themba Gadebe.

Registering on the metro’s online platform, www.e-siyakhokha.co.za, will also make viewing statements and paying for your services in time a breeze.

Ratepayers are also advised to make payments ahead of time, as the municipali offices will be closed between Christmas and New Year.

“Municipal offices will be closed from 1pm on December 24 and will reopen on Monday, January 4, 2016,” said Gadebe.

Emergency and essential services such as refuse collection, electricity and water will still be operational throughout this period.

While offices will be closed, residents can still contact the following numbers in case of an emergency and for assistance:

  • Municipal Services Call Centre: 0860 54 3000
  • Life-threatening emergencies: 011 458 0911 or 10177 or 112 (from a mobile phone).
