Confused woman is back to her old ways

The homeless woman, who collects mountains of rubbish and has become a familiar face in town, is back at her old spot.

Members of the EMPD, accompanied by security guards and employees of the metro’s Waste Department confiscated a huge amount of rubbish, collected by the woman, in October last year.

After this action, she has kept a low profile but has recently been spotted near the Charl Bard Stadium with a much smaller heap of belongings.

The woman, who comes across extremely confused, first attracted attention when she set up a shack on the pavement right in front of the Brakpan Police Station, about a year ago.

After many attempts by the police and other law enforcement agencies, she eventually packed up her shelter, only to move around the corner.

She then started to collect a huge amount of junk which she kept in a self-made space. These items were confiscated and removed last year (Read more here).

On Monday she told the Herald that she did not want any trouble. She said the authorities have her fingerprints and that she was flying to England to be with relatives.

She also said that she had R200 which she was going to donate to the hungry children in Somalia and Ethiopia.

She previously told the Herald her name is Happiness Mngladi and that she does not have a place to stay.
