Trio’s crime spree comes to an end

The three suspects were found in possession of a toy 9mm pistol.

Members of the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department’s First Responder Unit arrested three suspected armed robbers on Wednesday, last week.

The trio had allegedly been terrorising the communities of Tsakane and Duduza.

On Wednesday morning, the EMPD members were alerted to a white Toyota Avanza with three male occupants who were on an early morning robbing spree.

The hunt for the men started at around 7am and the trio were arrested at about 9am along Vlakfontein Road, near the Duduza Taxi Rank.

“The three arrested suspects were found in possession of a toy 9mm pistol,” said EMPD spokesperson Lieut-Col Wilfred Kgasago.

“They were detained at the Tsakane Police Station where charges of armed robbery were registered against them.

“Several members of the communities of Tsakane and Duduza who fell victim to the trio came forward and opened cases of armed robbery.

The arrested suspects, all of whom are in their early 30s, were expected to appear in the Tsakane Magistrate’s Court soon.
