Gun-toting ‘cop’ threatens motorist

The man, who was wearing a vest emblazoned with the word "police", pulled out a black firearm, cocked it and pointed it at the motorist, telling him to pull over immediately.

A motorist travelling along the N17 highway during the early morning hours was threatened with a gun after he refused to pull over for police.

While the police vehicle was marked, the motorist believes the three occupants were not real police officers.

The incident took place near the Dalpark Toll Plaza at about 2.10am on Friday, last week.

According to information received, the motorist was approaching the toll plaza when he noticed the police car travelling behind him.

The driver of the police car flashed his headlights at the motorist, indicating he should pull over.

The motorist was suspicious, however, because the police car didn’t have roof lights.

He proceeded through the toll and the police vehicle pulled up alongside him.

The motorist indicated to the passenger in the police car that he would drive to the nearest police station.

This man, who was wearing a vest emblazoned with the word “police”, pulled out a black firearm, cocked it and pointed it at the motorist, telling him to pull over immediately.

The motorist quickly stopped in the emergency lane.

The three occupants from the police car approached him and questioned his actions.

He told the trio that there were numerous hijackings along the highway carried out by fake police officers.

He also told them he was concerned because their vehicle did not have roof lights.

The motorist was instructed to leave and the men returned to their vehicle and drove off.

He then noticed that the police car didn’t have a call sign (two letters and two numbers found on the side of a police vehicle).

The incident was reported to Brakpan police.
