Reaching out to the cold and hungry
The Brakpan Red Cross feeds approximately 187 families every second week.
Staff and volunteers from the Brakpan Red Cross distributed about 80 blankets and handed out soup and bread to destitute residents in the Brakpan Mall on Tuesday evening, last week.
The local society feeds approximately 187 families every second week and relies on donations from businesses and the public to assist those in need.
According to Brakpan Red Cross manager Colin Huma, there has been an increase in the number of people in need of help.
“Many of the people out there do not even have ID books to register for help of any kind,” he said.
The Brakpan Red Cross returned to the mall the following morning to hand out food.
