(WATCH:) Ergo opens its doors to the media

Ergo operates its primary plant in Brakpan.

DRD Gold played host to members of the media during a site visit to Ergo on Thursday, last week.

Ergo is one of the world’s largest gold surface tailings retreatment facilities and owns the rights to treat around 100 sand dumps and slimes dams on the Witwatersrand, some of which are currently being treated.

Surface gold retreatment is a largely mechanised process and is significantly different from that of conventional mining.

Tailings material at the reclamation site is recovered by using high-pressure water jets or front-end loaders and is fed as slurry to the plant for gold recovery.

Ergo operates its primary plant in Brakpan and the smaller Knights plant in Germiston.

Two other plants, at Crown Mines and City Deep, have been decommissioned and are operating as pump and milling stations.
