Driver robbed after being pulled over by traffic cops

The men drove off in an unmarked white Volkswagen Polo with no number plates.

According to information received, the following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the weekend:

• Friday – A television set, laptop and tablet were stolen from a home along Hastings Avenue.

A driver for a delivery company was robbed of his wallet and cellphone by two men.

The driver was stopped by the pair, who were wearing traffic police uniforms, at the corner of Koot Street and Heidelberg Road, in Witpoortjie, at about 11am.

One of the men ordered the driver to get out of the vehicle and demanded cash.

The other man began searching the vehicle, but found no money.

The first man then pointed a gun at the driver, and he was robbed of his belongings.

The driver was then told to leave.

The men drove off in an unmarked white Volkswagen Polo with no number plates.

The driver noticed two women siting in the back seat of the vehicle.

It is not known whether the men are real or bogus traffic officers.

Four men robbed a Stoffberg Avenue business of a substantial amount of cash and a laptop.

An employee was alone in the office, at about 12.15pm, when the robbers entered the premises.

One of the robbers pointed a gun at the man and instructed him to open the safe.

The robbers took more than R60 000 from the strongbox, and a laptop.

They fled in a white Volkswagen Golf or a Mazda hatchback.

Another business situated along the same street fell victim to burglars.

The company was robbed of a laptop, three cellphones, three mobile printers and cold drinks.

A woman was robbed of her bank card at an ATM in Brakpan North.

The woman was approaching the machine, when a man suddenly grabbed her card and ran off.

She received an SMS minutes later, notifying her that R1 300 had been withdrawn from her account.

The incident took place at about 3pm.

A toolbox was stolen from the back of a bakkie parked along Victoria Avenue.

• Saturday – A residence in the Mkhankwa Village informal settlement, near Ergo, was burgled of a televison set.

A white Hyundai H100 bakkie was stolen from Kingsway Avenue.

• Sunday – A Dalpark family were robbed in their Seekoei Road home by two men.

The robbery took place at about 1.40am.

The men, who threatened the family at gunpoint, fled with only a cellphone.

Police were called to the Mkhankwa Village informal settlement after a 47-year-old man was stabbed to death.

A witness told police she was awakened by a commotion outside her home at about 3am.

The events leading up to the incident are not known.

A case of murder is being investigated.

Electric cables to the value of R500 were stolen from a company in De Kock Street, Vulcania.

A suspect was found on the premises and arrested.

A break-in was reported at a business along Kitzinger Avenue.

A television set and a cellphone were stolen.

The driver of a black Mercedes Benz was hijacked at about 5.30pm in Leachville.

Four men, two of whom were armed with a knife and a gun, threatened the driver and his passenger when they stopped at the corner of Boven and Jacaranda avenues.

One of the men tried to pull the driver out of the vehicle, but he resisted and a struggle ensued.

The driver then tried to flee and got out of the car and ran.

The hijackers caught him and one of the men sat on him, while another said they should shoot him.

The gang then climbed into the Mercedes and drove off.
