Successful day for EMPD

Recovered two stolen vehicles.

Two stolen vehicles were recovered by members of the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department in Brakpan, on Wednesday.

The vehicles – a Mercedes Benz and a Toyota Dyna truck – were stolen in separate incidents.

The Mercedes was stolen on Wednesday at about 8.30am during a hijacking in Boabab Road, Van Dyk Park.

“An idling silver Mercedes Benz Coupe with a 56-year old male driver, who was about to access his premises, was hijacked in the driveway by three armed assailants,” said acting EMPD spokesperson Lieut-Col Kobeli Mokheseng.

The trio sped off with the hijacked vehicle and were escorted by a getaway vehicle – a similar Mercedes.

“The victim screamed very loud, which caught the neighbour’s attention, who responded promptly with his vehicle and a chase ensued,” said Mokheseng.

“It is alleged that there was an exchange of gunfire and the Merc was shot at, deflating the front right tyre.

“The hijackers managed to stop the vehicle and jumped into theirs.”

The hijacked Mercedes came to a halt at the corner of Van Dyk Road and the R554, near Carnival City, where EMPD officers from the Brakpan precinct assisted.

Meanwhile in Langaville, Tsakane, at about 10am, patrolling officers from the EMPD’s Springs precinct recovered an abandoned white Toyota Dyna 4.5 ton truck inside a yard.

The vehicle, which was reported stolen in Kempton Park the night before, was found along Inanda Road.

Both vehicles were towed and taken to the SAPS Van Ryn Deep Vehicle Pound in Benoni.

Investigations are underway.
