Speeding drivers caught on R23

Two of the arrested motorists will also face charges of driving under the influence of alcohol.

Nine motorists were arrested in Brakpan, on Saturday, for speeding.

The drivers were nabbed by EMPD officers during a speed enforcement operation held along the R23 (Heidelberg Road), which is an 80km/h zone.

The operation was held between 4am and 11am, near Ouhout Crescent, in Dalpark Extension 13.

According to EMPD acting spokesperson, Lieut-Col Kobeli Mokheseng, two of the arrested motorists will also face charges of driving under the influence of alcohol.

“At 5.07am, officers battled to stop a Volkswagen Polo driven by a 25-year old intoxicated male for clocking 156km/h, who alleged that he was on his way home,” said Mokheseng.

Another ‘intoxicated’ 25-year-old man, also driving a Volkswagen Polo, was caught at 5.27am for doing 128km/h.

Other lawbreakers were caught doing speeds of between 117km/h and 155km/h.

The motorists were detained and charged at the Brakpan Police Station.
