Weekend crime round-up

Another car trailer was stolen in Brakpan North.

According to information received, the following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the weekend:

• Friday – A clothing store in Mall@Carnival was burgled.

Shoes and cellphones were stolen from the shop’s stockroom.

The theft took place at about 6.30am.

* Five burglaries took place.

These were reported at addresses along Alexandria Avenue and Van der Walt Road, in Dalview, Pienaar Street, in Brenthurst, and Stoffberg Avenue and Muir Avenue.

Cash, a laptop, games consoles, big screen television sets, jewellery and a toolbox were among the items stolen.

* Two cars were broken into.

A handbag was stolen from a car parked along Farquharson Street, in Kenleaf, and wheels and a CD player were stolen from a car in Verster Street, Minnebron.

* A woman was robbed of her cellphone and cash while walking along Denne Road, in Withok Estates.

The thief grabbed the woman by the neck and pushed her to the ground, demanding her belongings.

The incident took place at about 8pm.

* Two friends were robbed of their cellphones and other belongings, in Vulcania.

The pair, travelling in a white Opel Corsa, were forced to pull over after hitting a pothole at about 9.15pm.

The pothole caused a flat tyre and the friends stopped at the corner of Springs Road and Lemmer Road.

While attending to the tyre, two men approached them.

One of the men pulled out a gun and fired two shots in the air.

The robbers searched the pair, taking the man’s wallet and cellphone, and the woman’s handbag.

The men then disappeared into a nearby veld.

* In what is believed to be a separate incident, a man was robbed of his cellphone and R200 along Lemmer Road, at about the same time as the robbery incident above.

The man was walking to Springs when he was approached by a man armed with a gun, who demanded his money.

• Saturday – A car parked at an address along Verster Street, in Minnebron, was broken into.

Speakers were stolen from the vehicle.

* A tablet was stolen from a car in Devon Street, Dalview.

* Burglaries were reported at homes along Fuschia Street, in Dalpark, and Libertas Street, in Sonneveld.

Clothing, jewellery, a laptop and a television set were stolen.

A white Mazda 323 was stolen in Kingsway Avenue.

• Sunday – A family was robbed in their Leachville home, at about 10am.

Three robbers broke into the house along Kouga Street and threatened the two family members at home with a gun.

The trio took two television sets, jewellery, shoes, cellphones and a clothes iron.

The robbers fled in a silver Mercedes Benz.

* A break-in took place at an address along Slangberg Street, in Leachville.

A list of the stolen goods was not provided to police.

* Security guards on duty at a company along Lemmer Road, in Vulcania, were bound with cable ties and robbed of their cellphones by two men.

One of the guards was confronted outside the guardroom by one of the men at about 10.45pm.

The robbers fled the scene without taking anything from the premises

Other cases reported:

• Thursday – Break-ins were reported at the following addresses:
Stoffberg Avenue.
Selbourne Avenue.
Wenden Avenue.
Voortrekker Road (business).

Meat, cellphones, computers, a television set and two stoves were stolen.

*A motorbike was stolen from an address along Taft Avenue.

* A car trailer was stolen from Bacher Avenue, in Brakpan North.

This is the third such incident to take place in the area within a week.
