Daily crime watch

The following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the past 24 hours (November 1 to 2):

Cases reported:

• Theft from motor vehicle: 2
• Common robbery: 1
• Fraud: 1
• Theft: 3
• Reckless driving: 1
• Tampering with/damaging infrastructure: 1
• Rape: 1
• Malicious damage to property: 1
• Truck hijacking: 1

Arrests:

• Malicious damage to property and common assault: 1
• Theft: 1
• Rape: 1

Robbery:

• A woman was robbed of her handbag by two men along Prince George Avenue, yesterday (Wednesday).

The incident took place at around 9.50am, when the victim was waiting for her husband outside a local bank.

The bag contained a large sum of cash.

Truck hijacking:

• Four occupants of a white Volkswagen Polo hijacked the driver of truck (make, model and colour not provided) along Hiedelberg Road (R23), yesterday.

The victim was travelling near Leachville at around 2pm, when the Polo overtook him.

A passenger in the Polo motioned to the truck driver to pull over and he stopped, thinking it was the police.

As he was looking for his driver’s licence, the victim felt something cold pressed against his neck.

He was forced out of the truck and into the Polo at gunpoint.

The victim was dropped off in Germiston.

Theft from a motor vehicle:

• Tyres and wheels were stolen from a car parked at an address along Lapping Road, in Brenthurst, on Saturday.

• A vehicle parked along Prince George Avenue, in Brenthurst, was broken into yesterday.

The car’s radio and speakers were stolen.
