Plastic City set for the silver screen

The Plastic City informal settlement will be the focus of a documentary by Benoni filmmaker Yakima Waner.

Waner, the social and environmental awareness documentarian and editor of Intent Conscious Media, is making waves in the film industry after releasing a documentary, To Wake Buddhi, which premiered online on April 22.

The documentary, which is aimed at educating people about forest fires, was showcased at the Ekotopfilm Festival in Prague in the Czech Republic earlier this year.

The intended Plastic City documentary, titled Pickers, is currently in the field research phase.

It will explore the lives of the people who call the informal settlement home and aims to share their stories and show the real benefit they are providing for the planet through recycling.

Pickers will be released on April 22, 2018 (Earth Day).
